Michael Lowe and Charlotte Gill started their apprenticeships in September 2018, both working for schools sponsored by Brighton and Hove City Council. As well as achieving Qualified Teacher Status, they have also been awarded a Postgraduate Certificate of Education from the ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ. Both are now working full-time in secondary schools in the area.
Michael said: “the apprenticeship really has given me the opportunity to realise a dream I've had for a long time.
“Knowing that I could still fulfil my responsibilities as a dad, and qualify as a teacher was life-changing. And achieving ‘Outstanding’ in my end-point assessment is the icing on the cake”
Charlotte, who teaches English said: "The apprenticeship has given me more experience of teaching in the classroom and the qualification I needed to carry on teaching the subject that I love."
These impressive grades show a strong start to the teacher apprenticeship programme, which attracted a further 15 new teacher apprentices in June 2019.
Carla Butler, Apprenticeship Programme Manager from Brighton and Hove City Council congratulated the apprentices and said: “The South East are very lucky to have such a forwarding thinking university.”
The university’s teacher apprenticeship programme is now recruiting for 2020.
